How to get seaman’s book the easiest way in the Philippines?
Seafarer is one of the most in demand jobs for Filipinos who wants to work in the hospitality industry in a luxury cruise line and not only on the passenger vessel but most of the any other jobs in ships such as tank, cargo and bulk vessels. Though, it’s not that easy to work as a seafarer, first, you need to undergo Basic Training which includes Elementary First Aid, Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting, Personal Survival and Social Responsibility and Personal Survival Techniques in able to get a seaman’s book. After completing and passing BT, you can now process your seaman’s book with a hassle free. I thought at first, I need to reserve an online application before going to have an appointment with MARINA, that’s what everybody else say. And I will tell you now on how did i got my seaman’s book without time consuming especially if you need to rush your seaman’s book or you just don’t like too much waiting for long lines. So for all the new applicant of seaman’s book wether you’re fresh graduate or experienced applicant or ex OFW, the easiest way to process your SIRB is go to POEA Bldg. in Ortigas, it’s easy as 1,2,3 step.
I’ve been there last Oct. 9, 2017 to get my seaman’s book. It’s located at ground floor of POEA, it’s on the right side corner from the main entrance and you’ll see easily MARINA branch from there. You must prepare and bring all the original and photocopies of the following requirements:
- Receipt of your BT
- Valid NBI clearance
- BT certification
After presenting all the original requirements, you will need to fill up an application form and submit it together with the copies of all requirements. Then you’ll pay seaman’s book fee at the cashiers’ window:
a) Regular – 800 (release next day)
b) Expedite – 1,500 (release on the same day)
And after paying, you will be taken a picture with proper uniform provided by them. And you’re almost done, keep your receipt and present it upon claiming your seamans book and that’s it.
Congratulations, you already have now your seaman’s book with you! Hassle free and no time consuming getting a seaman’s book. I suggest that you go to MARINA POEA branch in the afternoon and will be no more long lines and no more waiting too much during those times. As for me, no need to schedule online application and “wait for weeks” before getting an appointment for MARINA. No need to wake up early just to secure you’ll be on the first 400 applicant to process your seaman’s book at the main branch. Hope you’ll learn something from my experience and you find it helpful.
Good luck and enjoy your journey at the ship!
